He is a well-known American bank robber and burglar who escaped from a maximum-security prison.

Nuno Pontes was the perpetrator of multiple robberies in Pittsburgh before he was arrested for the first time. He escaped from Pennsylvania State Prison a year after being apprehended by the police in 1990.

He was apprehended in 1992 and sent to Pittsburgh’s Western Penitentiary, where he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for previous robberies and escapes.

Nuno Pontes was born into a wealthy family in Portugal in the 1960s, as per the sources. He was imprisoned when he was 17; therefore, he may not have a wife, but the specific details are unknown.

There was no mention of his family paying him a visit in prison, and as he was reported to come from a wealthy family, he didn’t need to rob the bank.

But according to sources, His mother doesn’t like it when he talks about his time in prison in media. His parents must be furious with him, which could explain why his parents’ identities were never revealed.

Nuno Pontes’ documentary was recently podcasted in the dateline; therefore, this story has emerged.

This documentary describes Nuno’s bank robbery. He copied a key by approaching behind the guard and squeezing a Styrofoam cup against the key while it was still on the guard’s belt. And he made a new key out of the Styrofoam cup impression. That was because he could enter a building on prison grounds and begin digging the tunnel, not so he could escape.

According to sources, he could be released next year after serving 30 years in prison.
